JOB TITLE: Prosecutor, Full-Time; Prosecutor, Part-Time
JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Law Director, Criminal Chief Prosecutor, and/or Civil Chief Prosecutor, said Prosecutor shall be responsible for performing any and all duties directed by the Law Director and/or the Division Chief in accordance with the United States Constitution, Ohio Constitution, Charter of the City of Elyria, Ohio Revised Code, Ordinances of the City of Elyria, and other state and federal laws and regulations.
The employee must be able to perform all essential functions of the position and must meet all job safety requirements and all applicable safety standards that pertain to essential functions. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent the State of Ohio, City of Elyria, various elected officials, employees and municipal entities in trials, hearings, administrative proceedings, and other legal matters and concerns.
- Conduct legal research; prepare contracts, legislation, legal memorandum, opinions, motions, and briefs; prepare appeals (research, briefs, and oral arguments) before the Ninth District Court of Appeals and/or Ohio Supreme Court.
- Produce, review, and redact public records in accordance with the Ohio Sunshine Law, including, but not limited to, electronic media and law enforcement “body cam” footage.
- Work cooperatively and courteously with other employees of the Law Director’s Office, members of law enforcement, municipal employees, and members of the public.
- Perform other related duties as required.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Attention to detail; ability to anticipate and promptly respond to departmental needs; effective and efficient communicator through verbal, written, and electronic means; courteous; understands the importance of working together as a team; excellent research and writing skills; must be able to communicate and interact professionally with individuals of diverse backgrounds; ability to work outside of traditional business hours, as necessary; must maintain the confidentiality of law enforcement and investigatory records and other protected information; must possess qualities of critical thinking, strong work ethic, and fairness; ability to work in a high-stress, deadline-oriented environment; capable of prioritizing tasks and delegating as appropriate.
Fluency in Spanish language is not required but most beneficial.
EDUCATIONAL & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
- Juris Doctorate Degree from accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law and an attorney in good standing in the State of Ohio
- Maintain compliance with the Continuing Education Requirements (CLE) and Ohio
Rules of Professional Conduct adopted by the Supreme Court of Ohio - Remain educated and up-to-date on new legislation and case law
SALARY (Full-Time): Starting at $78,000.00 + benefits; commensurate and negotiable with experience
SALARY (Part-Time): 16 hours per week; Starting at $39,000.00 + benefits; commensurate and negotiable with experience
LOCATION: Elyria, Ohio 44035; Must be able to travel occasionally off-site.
