FLUSHABLE AND NON-FLUSHABLE ITEMS
Homeowners are responsible for costs associated with maintaining their own sewer pipes, and some things just don’t belong in the toilet. When the wrong things are flushed, costly sewage backups can occur on your property and in your basement. They also cause numerous failures at sewage pump stations and at the wastewater treatment plant. That’s why it’s so important to treat toilets properly and flush only your personal contributions to the sewer.
Do not flush items such as:
- Baby and personal wipes (even if they say “flushable” – they are not)
- Diapers
- Feminine hygiene products
- Paper towels
- Cotton swabs
- Syringes
- Food wrappers
- Cloths of any kind
- Cleaning sponges/devices
- Plastics of any type
- Aquarium gravel or kitty litter
- Latex products
