OVERVIEW
The City of Elyria Street Department and their lean 12-person crew is key to our City’s safety and beauty. They are charged with maintaining our streets and crosswalks in coordination with multiple departments, from Engineering to Wastewater and everything in between.
Our Street Department never has a dull day. They maintain 409 miles of highway, 187 miles of divided two-lane roads, 518 streets, and 151 cul-de-sacs.
WHAT WE DO
The Street Department works year-round to battle the potholes caused by age, snowplowing, rain, and harsh northeast Ohio winters. REPORT A POTHOLE: 440-322-3129
The City of Elyria has plow drivers on call whenever inclement winter weather is on its way. The City of Elyria follows established, State-approved best practices for safe and efficient salting and de-icing of roadways.
The City of Elyria collects leaves from residential curb lawn each Fall. Leaves should be raked into loose piles onto your curb lawn for pickup.
The Street Department mows the grass on State Route 57 and 65 City-owned lots. Private homes with long grass need to be reported to the Safety Service at 440-326-1404
