Maintains the personnel management system, manages the operations of the department, and oversees compliance with legislated requirements including Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO). Administers a variety of employee benefits, including employee medical and prescription plans as well as all fringe benefits and Cafeteria 125 plan.
Increases public awareness and participation in Elyria City employment through advertising, targeted recruitment programs, and employment services. Helps to administer the classification and compensation plan. Administers employee benefit programs, conducts new employee orientations, and assists in benefit awareness.
Provides programs to engage employees in all aspects of organizational effectiveness, updates educational and proficiency levels, improves productivity, strengthens internal communications, and builds a new generation of leadership.
Responsible for collective bargaining and compliance with agreements, investigations, negotiations, administration of employee benefits, reasonable accommodation, advising departments in disciplinary matters, and interpreting and applying labor laws.
Provide risk management and employee safety services. Administers the self-insurance benefits, and is responsible for the investigation and settlement or denial of claims for City of Elyria employees. Provides employee safety and workers’ compensation administration services for Elyria City employees.

Does Elyria have seasonal or part-time employment?

Applications are accepted, preferably, through our website applicant tracker. This may include supplemental documentation, which will be indicated within the job posting. Applications can also be submitted via email to careers@cityofelyria.org or to 131 Court Street, Suite 104, Elyria, OH 44035. The City does not accept faxed applications.
How do I know when the City is accepting applications?

If I am offered a City job, are there conditions that I must meet before I can begin?
All candidates must pass a basic background check and a pre-hire drug screening. The background check will be as extensive as necessary in relation to the position in which the candidate is being considered.
