DOWNTOWN, VARIOUS MAJOR INTERSECTION IN ELYRIA

The City of Elyria is proposing improvements to directional signage at key intersections throughout the City including SR57 and Gulf, SR57 and Abbe, Lorain Blvd and Lake Ave,  E. Broad Street and SR 57.  The City continues to propose improvements in the downtown area involving upgraded lighting under the Kerstetter Railroad underpass.  Additional sharrows and signage along Lake Ave and Furnace Street will be used to connect the Northcoast Inland Trail to Cascade Park.  Additional bike racks may be added if needed along the project corridor.  This project is Phase 6 of a continuing effort to utilize Transportation for Livable Communities Initiative grant funds in Elyria.  Phases 5 is set to begin within the next couple months and be completed before ed of year 2024. currently under construction.

Proposed improvements include:

  • Replacing and upgrading directional signage
  • Install wayfinding signage to point out key locations, buildings, destinations
  • Replace uneven and/or broke sidewalks at the Kerstetter underpass
  • Providing shared bike lane pavement markings on Furnace and Lake between Cascade Park and Elm Street
  • Install bike racks if needed

The work limits are generally confined to within the limits of the existing Right-of-Way. The proposed project will not impact any ecological resources, suspect hazardous waste sites or directly affect any buildings or structures. The project will not result in substantial impacts to the environment either individually or cumulatively.

The construction of this right of way improvement project is anticipated to begin in the Summer of 2025 and will extend through the end of December 2025.  Access to all properties within the work limits will be maintained at all times during construction of the project. The estimated construction cost is $203,000.
