Elyria, OH – The City of Elyria is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $136,469 grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Recycle Ohio Program to support the City’s organic material recycling program. This funding will help cover the costs associated with Barnes Nursery’s operation of Elyria’s compost facility.
With this grant, Elyria will continue to collect and process leaves, brush, branches, and other organic materials, diverting nearly 500 tons of waste annually from landfills. Through a successful partnership with Barnes Nursery, these materials are transformed into high-quality compost and mulch, benefiting local residents, businesses, and surrounding communities.
“This grant represents a significant investment in our city’s environmental future,” said Elyria Mayor Kevin Brubaker. “It will help us continue to reduce landfill waste while providing a great service to our residents. I want to thank Assistant Safety Service Director Joe Strohsak and our partners at McCauley and Company for making this happen – together they saved the City over $130,000.”
The City of Elyria remains committed to building a more sustainable community. Thanks to this grant, the organic material recycling program will continue to serve residents while supporting our broader waste reduction and landfill diversion goals.
