An Emergency Warming Shelter will open at 6:00 pm Tuesday, February 18th at South Rec. The shelter is expected to stay open through 7:00 am Thursday, February 20th. South Rec is located at 101 South Park Drive. City Hall is also open to the public during regular business hours throughout the week.
NOTE: Shelter will be held in the community room. Activities scheduled for the gymnasium will not be affected.
The National Weather Service is forecasting extreme cold. If you or someone you know lack adequate heating please consider coming to South Park to get warm. Leashed or crated pets are welcome. City staff are monitoring the forecast and will adjust the shelter’s opening or closing times as needed.
City staff and community advocates regularly reach out to unhoused individuals to connect them with shelters and services across Lorain County. During extreme weather events, the City opens a temporary emergency shelter to supplement those efforts. All who may lack adequate heating are welcome at the temporary shelter.
