From the Mayor’s Office:
On behalf of The City of Elyria I’d like to congratulate Dale Haynes and Dana Linden for their selection as Employees of the Month. Please take a moment to read about their selection and join me in thanking them for their excellent service.
Dale Haynes – Skilled Maintenance, Wastewater Pollution Control
Dale Haynes has worked for the City of Elyria for 13 years. Chris Werling, Assistant Superintendent at Wastewater Pollution Control, nominated Dale for Employee of the Month because of his commitment to continued education and strong work ethic.
Recently, Dale passed Ohio EPA Class 2 Wastewater Collections System Operator Certification exam. He spent many hours on his own time preparing for the exam. This particular certification is considered challenging to obtain, and only two other City employees have received the certification.
“Dale is a dedicated employee who works hard every day,” Chris wrote in his nomination. He is often seen at working repairing manholes and catch basins and “doing everything that is asked of him.” His coworkers also describe Dale as having a work ethic which sets a positive example for his team.
Dana Linden – Marketing and Recruitment Specialist, Elyria Police Department
Dana Linden has worked for the City of Elyria for one year, playing an integral role in supporting the Police Department in their efforts to recruit new officers. She was nominated by several colleagues for her positive attitude and willingness to assist the team in whatever is needed.
Colleagues describe Dana as “always smiling” and “always willing to help is with whatever we need.” Her superiors note that she is considered to be one of the top employees in the entire department. “We can always depend on her, she’s truly appreciated around here,” they said.
Recently, Dana has gone above and beyond her typical duties by organizing the Dunk-a-Cop funraiser for Elyria City Schools at the Apple Festival. She’s now working on Trunk-or-Treat, a community Thanksgiving meal program, and the Shop-with-a-Cop Christmas program.
We reached out to Dana to see if there’s anything she wants to share about her work. She replied, “I’m incredibly fortunate to work with an amazing group of people. As a recruiter, I get to connect with so many people and share all the wonderful things Elyria has to offer. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is organizing opportunities for our first responders to engage with the community in a positive way. Seeing those interactions bring so much joy and pride to my work.”
Outside of work, Dana enjoys travelling, watching sports, working out on her Peloton, and spending time with her husband and their dog, Bumper.
The work that Dale and Dana do is not often seen by the public, yet their roles are critical in keeping the City running. Both exemplifies what it means to serve the community, and we are lucky to have them on our team. Please join me in congratulating Dale and Dana for their selections as Employees of the Month!
With Gratitude,
Mayor Brubaker
