What?

The City of Elyria Utilities Department is in the process of validating its inventory of water Service Lines (SLs) within the City of Elyria, and proactively creating a plan for future replacement of both public and private service lines.  If you are receiving this survey request, we do not know what your service line is made out of, and it is classified as “unknown.”

How?

Identify your water service line material.  Please fill out this brief survey below.
The incoming water service line in your home can either come up from the basement floor or out of the wall in the basement.  If you have a crawlspace, the water service line may be located there and come up from the floor.  If your home does not have a basement or crawlspace, the incoming water service line likely comes up through the main floor (typically a utility closet). The below diagram shows how to preform a scratch test and magnet test to identify your service line material.
