How do I submit my permit application?
In-person:
Paper applications and associated documents may be dropped off at the Building and Land Department in City Hall from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, excluding holidays. Parking is available behind City Hall in the parking lot. Limited parking is available in front of City Hall along Court Street.

How much is the Permit Fee?
Permits have varying fees dependent upon the project type. Please refer to the specific application for guidance. All applications may be found at the following link: https://www.cityofelyria.org/forms-and-permits/

We accept Cash, Credit/Debit Card, or Check. Checks should be made out to City of Elyria.

How long does permit approval take?
The Ohio Board of Building Standards allows for a thirty (30) day review process, but every effort is made to expedite where possible and is contingent upon the information provided. Approvals / Issuance may vary depending on the nature of the request and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis, resulting in a quick turnaround for common projects (doors, siding, roofing, etc.) and slightly longer for complicated projects (New Commercial project, Homes, Additions, major interior remodel, etc.).
NOTE: Please be diligent when completing the application and provide as much detail as possible.
