The Elyria Active Transportation Plan (ATP) is a collaborative process to identify and create opportunities for human-powered transportation options. The City of Elyria and Lorain County Public Health initiated the active planning process in June 2020, and over the next eight (8) to twelve (12) months to identify ways to ensure walking, biking, rolling, scooting, and skating are more safe and convinient. The Elyria Active Transportation Plan (ATP) will identify both physical changes to the city’s infrastructure, as well as programs and policies that will support positive change.

Purpose

Active Transportation Plans aim to create safe, easy and fun opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities to choose human-powered transportation options. Human-powered transportation includes biking, walking, skating, scooting, and rolling to get where you want to go. When it is safe and easy to choose human-powered transportation, communities can reverse the nationwide trend toward obesity and chronic diseases associated with inactivity.
